It was just announced that pop superstar Harry Styles and The Crown’s Emma Corrin will star in the film adaption of 2012 romance novel My Policeman written by Bethan Roberts.
What do we know about this movie?
This LGBTQ romance film is based on the popular novel My Policeman, a story about the love triangle between Marion (played by Emma Corrin), a school teacher, who falls in love with police officer Tom (played by Harry Styles), and Museum curator Patrick Hazelwood, who embarks on an affair with Tom.
The story unfolds in 1950’s Brighton, England, where homosexuality was illeagal, leaving Tom with a devestating decision when he realizes his deep feelings for Patrick. The film will also visit the characters in the 90’s, 40 years in the future. The casting of the older versions of the three characters have yet to be announced.
About this cast
It was officially announced on February 4th according to a Daily Mail report that Styles would star with Corrin in this upcoming film. This is not Styles’ first major film role. He previously had a supporting role in Dunkirk directed by Christopher Nolan back released in July 2017, and has recently been shooting for Olivia Wilde’s new psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling, where he plays the role of 1950’s husband Jack alongside Florence Pugh. This is Emma Corrin’s first major film role, though she has recently been nominated for Golden Globe and SAG awards for her astounding performance as Princess Diana in The Crown.
The rest of the casting for this film has not yet been announced, and though it was rumored that Lily James was to be starring alongside Styles back in September, it is unknown why she is no longer set to be playing the role. This all star cast is already incredible, and we cannot wait to see who else gets added to this project.
Emma Corrin and Harry Styles have already been friends for several years. The pair share quite a few mutual friends such as fashion stylist Harry Lambert, who has styled many looks for the both of them. Just last November, Emma Corrin spoke about the pair's cute friendship on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when she said, “He once dog sat for me [...] He looked after Spencer for me. He hasn't done it again and I think its cause halfway through the meal I got a message that said ‘He won't stop farting. Is this normal?’” We can be confident that their friendly chemistry will transfer to the screen as well.
The film will be directed by Red’s Michael Grandage, and more information about the film’s cast and team will be announced in the upcoming months.
How can you watch it?
The film’s release date is not yet announced, but filming is set to begin in April, so we can expect something around a 2022 release date! Fans will be available to watch the film through Amazon Prime when it is released.
This film will no doubt be something extremely special with its incredible story and insanely talented cast and crew!
