How do you feel that you have altered your artistic perspective and developed your sound since your debut release?
“I’ve bounced in and out of many sub genres since my debut release - I’ve tried my hand at everything from Dancehall to Pop Punk. I’m self-produced and have used the last 5 years' releases as creative experimentation to funnel into what I consider the “PLVTINUM” sound.”
Your audience of young adults relate so deeply to your music due to the unfiltered vulnerability that you present in your songs. Do you actively try to reach a target demographic when writing music?
“I try to be as vulnerable and honest as I can when I'm writing records - especially in regards to more 'unsavory' topics. My fans resonate with the intensity and honesty in my songs when discussing these topics.”
After gaining so much buzz from your viral hit “Champagne & Sunshine” back in 2016, did you feel pressure to pigeonhole yourself into a certain sound or style based on what brought you success?
“Having a hit so early in my career has been a blessing and hurdle. What’s so interesting about that record’s trajectory is that it had its biggest year last year, even though it was released in 2015. I feel that the record is growing in tandem with the growth of my career, which is helping me avoid the dreaded 'one hit wonder' label.”
Did you have a set vision for how you wanted this song to come out before you began the production process, or did it change while you were working on it in a more fluid way?
“Most of my songs start with a mission statement for the production. The goal is always to do something unexpected. For “STRESS ME OUT” I wanted to merge a phonk style drum/bass pattern with sinister, cinematic, production.”
Was there a certain moment or experience that pushed you to initially begin writing “Stress Me Out”?
“The song is a reflection of my struggles with ego and god complex in my life. I would say that my entire adult life to date has been the inspiration for this record haha.”
What can fans expect from the rest of the EP? Are a lot of the songs a similar vibe to “Stress Me Out”?
“The EP has a ton of genre variation, the thru line is mostly with vocals and lyrical themes. I want to keep my fanbase on their toes with my production, I never want to be repetitive or predictable.”
What artists or albums were you listening to during the making of this single and the rest of the EP that might have impacted how the sound of your new music came out?
“I’ve been listening to a ton of latin music and hyperpop. I tried to merge those worlds with my standard dark, sultry sound.”
What is the one thing that you hope fans walk away with after listening to your music?
“I want them to get lost in the music and feel confident.”
